Shrinking communicative space for media and gender equality civil society organizations

چکیده

This study explores pressures on civil society organizations (CSOs) that promote gender equality in and through the media. By using cases from five countries- Cyprus, Ethiopia, Hungary, South Africa Spain, this maps out different ways which media CSOs are experiencing shrinking communicative space they operate at national contexts leapfrogging to transnational spaces. Through semi-structured interviews with women holding decision-making positions well-established a review of legal environment within, paper identifies several intersecting challenges facing case CSOs. These include financial constraints, restrictions, persisting cultures prejudice stereotyping towards feminism women’s rights, limited political back up. The indicates implications far-reaching difficult estimate if remain unaddressed.
